Recent gigs

Friday, November 24 — with Tim Chesterton at Wild Earth Bakery (8902 – 99 Street). This was one coooold night, but Tim and Marcy braved the weather as did Barry and Dawn, and Victor and Nicole, and a few other drop-in patrons of Wild Earth. Thanks to those who came out to listen, and special thanks to Tim for providing the lion's share of the entertainment while I fought against the virus that had its grip on me.

Saturday, November 25 at The Discovery Cafe in the Grant MacEwan Bookstore in City Centre. I performed John Lennon’s Imagine and one of Carrie's compositions, Peace Waltz. This was a very enjoyable gig, with a very appreciative gathering of folks that had a lot of thoughtful ideas on peace, and some very interesting and thought-provoking poetry. I didn't expect to join in the discussion but got involved anyway, and enjoyed the event thoroughly. I look forward to attending the next Discovery Cafe as an audience member.

Monday, November 27 — with Carrie at Second Cup, 34 Avenue and Gateway Blvd. We enjoyed ourselves so much here we didn't even take a break between sets. Very enjoyable gig, we had a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next one.

Friday, December 1 — with Tim at Transcend (9869 – 62 Avenue). Excellent place to play music, drink coffee, and buy really fresh coffee to take home. Tim and I had a very good night, I always enjoy hearing Tim's music and the audience was great. My voice was starting to get back to normal at this gig.

Gig and other news

My friend Tim Chesterton and I had a very enjoyable gig last weekend. Thanks to all of you who came out to see and hear us. I also want to thank the Bogani Cafe and thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants a great cup of fair trade coffee and/or a slice of incredibly delicious cheesecake. I can't remember the flavour I had but it was amazing.

Tonight I'm going to see another friend, Rhea, play a gig of her own. So much music in this city!

Gig September 23

Haven't posted for a while, guess it's time for another post.

Gigs:
My friend Tim Chesterton and I have a gig on the south side of Edmonton, on Saturday September 23rd. Tim is a great interpreter and arranger of traditional songs, and starting to compose a few of his own as well. We'll be trading songs and playing a few together too. For more details you can email me.

BTW Tim also has a great CD that can be purchased for an incredibly reasonable price, with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity. Come to the gig, and leave with a great CD.

July 7 2006

I've been listening to Loreena McKennitt a lot lately. Her interpretations of classic English poetry are beautiful. She set one of my favourite poems to music - "The Highwayman". And she has set another poem to music which I hadn't read before but I've quickly grown fond of it: Alfred Tennyson's "The Lady of Shallot". Both are very beautiful and wonderful interpretations of poetry, and her choice of instrumentation and arrangement is excellent.

Her own compositions are equally impressive and I'm surprised by both how quickly I've grown to appreciate her music, and also how much of a gap there was in my musical history by not having heard much of her music up until now.

Also saw "The Resonators" perform last night - very entertaining. Hope to see them again soon.

haven't posted for a while...

Let's see what's new? I haven't posted in a while, been busy. Mostly playing music! And cutting the lawn. Went to Jasper last weekend which was great. I have some pictures that someone else took there. I've set one of them as my wallpaper background on my computer, a very serene picture of a lake with mountains behind. It's very peaceful...

Guess that's all for now.

June 5-9, 2006

Next week I'll be involved with lots of music. I'm playing at the Meadowlark Second Cup Monday from 7:30 to 9:30. Tuesday I'm hosting the open stage at the downtown Second Cup attached to the Stanley Milner Library. Wednesday is my usual open stage at the 149 Street Second Cup.

Thursday I'll probably be letting my fingertips heal, after all that playing.

The West Coast

I just returned from a trip to Victoria, an amazingly clean and beautiful city. It would be nice to return there some day and play a few gigs, the music scene seems to be good and saw a few cool places to play. Also met a few fellow musicians there and hopefully can keep in touch with them.

I also host an open stage every Wednesday at the Second Cup on 149th Street and about 88th Avenue. It runs from 7:30 pm to at least 9:30 pm, and sometimes past 10 depending on the performers. Bring your instrument and your voice and entertain the coffee crowd! There are a few regular performers to watch as well, including my musical friend Tim Chesterton. Check out his blog here: http://timchesterton.blogspot.com

My friend Carrie comes out to watch or perform sometimes, too.
