I've been listening to Loreena McKennitt a lot lately. Her interpretations of classic English poetry are beautiful. She set one of my favourite poems to music - "The Highwayman". And she has set another poem to music which I hadn't read before but I've quickly grown fond of it: Alfred Tennyson's "The Lady of Shallot". Both are very beautiful and wonderful interpretations of poetry, and her choice of instrumentation and arrangement is excellent.Her own compositions are equally impressive and I'm surprised by both how quickly I've grown to appreciate her music, and also how much of a gap there was in my musical history by not having heard much of her music up until now.
Also saw "The Resonators" perform last night - very entertaining. Hope to see them again soon.
